-United Airlines Flight 93
Memorial Plaque-
This is a
7" x 5"
photo print of the Bronze Plaque of the names of the passengers and crew of
United Airlines Flight 93
that was part of an initial memorial at the 9/11 crash site near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, before a permanent memorial was built there.
A permanent memorial at the site was completed to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the crash. It protects the crash site indefinitely and was made to honor the passengers of
Flight 93
, who stopped the terrorists from reaching their target. The current design for the memorial is a modified version of the entry
Crescent of Embrace
by Paul and Milena Murdoch.
The Plaque reads:
THIS MEMORIAL IS IN MEMORY
OF THE BRAVE MEN AND WOMEN
WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES
TO SAVE SO MANY OTHERS.
THEIR COURAGE AND LOVE
OF OUR COUNTRY WILL BE
A SOURCE OF STRENGTH AND COMFORT
TO OUR GREAT NATION.
GOD BLESS AMERICA.
The plaque includes all the names of the passengers and crew. It does not include the names of the hijackers.
United Airlines Flight 93
was scheduled to fly across the United States from Newark, New Jersey, to San Francisco, Cal., on Tuesday, September 11, 2001. The Boeing 757 was hijacked by four al-Qaeda terrorists as part of the September 11 attacks. It subsequently crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania during an attempt by some of the passengers to regain control.
Although the evidence remains inconclusive, it is widely presumed the intended target was the US Capitol or the White House, possibly in hopes of killing then-president George W. Bush who at the time was visiting an elementary school in Florida.
Subsequent analysis of the flight recorders recovered from the crash site revealed how the actions taken by the passengers prevented the aircraft from reaching the hijackers' intended target. Of the four aircraft hijacked on September 11,
United Airlines Flight 93
was the only one that
did not
reach its hijackers' intended target.
