Description
You are bidding on a large original antique print from an 1880s illustrated journal. The quality of the printing from that era was exceptional. The print depicts eight brave Alaskan Malamute sled dogs taking on a polar bear, as a buckskin clad hunter takes aim with a shotgun or rifle. This dramatic picture is an advertisement for the International Fur Store.
The International Fur store was based at 163 to 165 Regent Street in London, and it was managed by Mr TS Jay. Unlike other furriers of the 19th century, who liked to advertise the exclusivity of their stores, Jay set out to create a store for everyone. His leaflets and trade cards advertised the very best quality fur for men and women, in the most up-to-date fashions, all sold at the lowest prices and for cash.
The print
is very large (folio size), measuring approximately 11 x 16 inches (28 x 40.5 cm). The picture fills most of the page, with a caption below.
The page is in excellent condition for its age.
There is text/photos on the back of the print.
